Iriquois Medicine Bag

Javier had a project for school. He is in the 5th grade at Carrollton. His first choice was moccasins but that would have taken weeks. So he settled on a medicine bag.

We only found leather at Arnie's in Houghton Lake. When Javier came over on Wednesday we were shocked to find it was a bag of remnants. Thankfully there were two pieces long enough to cut out the pattern we found on the Internet. But then Papa and Javier couldn't put holes in the leather. So we packed everything up to work on it on Sunday after church. Thankfully, Papa borrowed Grandpa Clifford's leather punch.

Nana found instructions on the Internet to show how to whipstitch.

Javier sewed the whole medicine bag. Then he added a button. We researched what goes into a medicine bag. Grandma Caroline was a little surprised I let him pick a "Janet" agate.

What a fun project. He did such a great job.
