Lenten Journey

This book is based on the homilies of Saginaw's former Bishop, Kenneth E. Untener.

I have decided to read one chapter each morning and then reflect on the message.

After only two mornings I can say this is the best Lenten decision I have ever made.

It's not too late - you can do this too. Click on the book to order a copy from the Sisters of St. Clare gift shop.

Comfort Food

My kids call them Grandma Shea Eggs. My Mom used to make these for us whenever we were sick. They are the very best eggs ever.

2 hard boiled eggs
Soft butter or margarine
Salt
Pepper

I know! Sounds too simple. How can this be the best eggs ever?

The eggs need to be warm. So if you have refrigerated them you need to break them into a few pieces and microwave just until warm. You must watch out because eggs like to explode in the microwave. It's best to put a plate on top of the bowl.

Smash the ingedients together until the eggs are in small pieces.

Close your eyes and take the first bite. Savor the deliciousness.

My Sweetie Pie made them for me this morning. He's the best.

Today in History

Today in history in 1964 the Beatles played for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show.

I remember this so well. My Dad was very ill. Just a few months to his death - of course I had no idea of that. His bed was set up in the second living room.

I wanted to see the Beatles, but the TV was in the front living room and because the two rooms were next to each other my Dad couldn't be disturbed.

We had a little TV on a rolling TV cart. It wasn't as great as the standing model in the living room but it brought the new sensation right into our dining room.

I was mesmerized!

Leftovers and Laughter

We had friends over for dinner on Thursday. We had a nice time with them. I made ribs again because I wanted to make sure the directions I wrote were correct. Yup. Still delicious.

But we ended up with lots of leftovers. I called Kay and we took dinner to their house. Jerry made glazed carrots. Kay made a salad. I brought the mashed potatoes, ribs and pumpkin dump cake.

We talked and laughed and ate like kings. We have very good friends in our lives.

Sr. Ardeth

Saginaw News Editor, Jodi McFarland has an article in the paper this morning about Sr. Ardeth.  The Netflix show, "Orange is the New Black" has a character based on Sr. Ardeth.

The series is based on the author's time spent in prison. When she was incarcerated Sr. Ardeth was there too.

Mom and Patsy loved Sr. Ardeth and they supported her non violent protests for peace and justice.

Sr. Ardeth was a City Councilwoman for 12 years in Saginaw.
