Screaming Terror in the Night!

Oh goodness! We think the owl we have been hearing found his dinner! There was a terrible sound of an animal screaming that went on for about a minute. It seemed to be across the lake and it sounded eerie! The scream was sort of cat like or maybe a rabbit. Then we heard the owl hooting again.

I'm glad we are in the trailer!

What a Glorious Morning

We had a huge storm last night at the Rifle River Recreation Area. I love thunder and lightening storms in the trailer!

Instead of having lunch we had our strawberry spinach salad while the chili was heating up. Marizetti's dressing in the bottom. Sliced strawberries past the dressing (so the spinach doesn't touch the dressing, so it won't wilt). Sliced green onions and then packed to the top with spinach. One container of strawberries and one of spinach made two mason jars. We ate one last night and will have the other today. It was delicious!

Chili in the crockpot last night. Prepared at home and stored in a crockpot liner in a ziploc container. Put the liner in the crockpot and an hour later the chili was ready. No cleanup!

It was too hot for a fire last night so we had a great one this morning. We saw a scarlet tananger at the campsite but when I got the camera it was up in the tree hidden by leaves. I played the identifier a couple of times and it answered me.

We went for a ride this morning. Pat stopped the van every 1/4 mile to move limbs out of the road from the storm. No eagles in the nest but a glorious view from the tower.

Pentecost

This is the last week for the backdrop behind the cross. It was very beautiful. We enjoyed it the whole Easter season.

Brilliant!

This blogger is brilliant! I am always losing my scissors when sewing and my tape when gift wrapping. And because I am so bad I tell myself ti always put it in the same spot. Alas, it only works for a little bit!

But I'll be buying some of those retractable gizmos and will attach them by the couch in the living room and the couch in the office!!!!

Ramen Noodles and Grilled Cheese

Little Miss ate a good lunch. She likes ice cubes in her noodles!

We played in the sprinkler - oh I actually mean we played next to the sprinkler. We tried the Crayola bubbles. NEVER AGAIN! What were they thinking. It is like berry syrup! What a mess.

I took out a pail of warm soapy water and she washed all the toys.

Then she taught Clifford the Big Red Dog how to play the piano.

Now she is building a castle and eating chocolate chips out of the Frankenstein dish! Does it get any better than this? Yes, when Javier is here, too!

Permission Granted

I've been trying to get permission to use the picture of the Webber House that is on the Saginaw Public Libraries website. Got it yesterday!

This photo is used courtesy of:

Yeah! One more hurdle cleared. Thanks Kelly for all your help!

Unexpected Pleasures

On Friday there was a knock on the back door. My high school friend was here from Florida. We had a half hour of catch up before she had to pick her sister up and be on her way.

Today, while dropping off auction items at church, I saw my Lock. (We were Lockermates for twelve years!) She was at church for a funeral luncheon after her aunts funeral. We only had fifteen minutes but I was able to see her husband, daughter and darling grandson, too.

Even though I haven't seen these friends for ages it was like we have never been apart. Friends, they mean so much to me.

Estate Sale Bonanza

We stopped by to the estate sale we went to yesterday. It was the last half hour. The man running it said, "Everything is a dollar!"

I spent $9. Really, even for a dollar I didn't need all that stuff.

I did get this cute little Noah's ark. It looks like it needs batteries. We'll see what it does. Ayva and Javier will like it even though the animals are attached.

Basketball

We just came home from a parish council meeting. The youngest boy next door was all by himself shooting baskets. Pat went out to play horse with him.

I washed the empty dishes from the potluck. And pretty soon young boys from across the street trickled in walking past my window.  I can hear them all out there having fun with "Mr. Clifford!"

Heaven Scent

I'm playing Bakery Story - my niece, Sarah told me to build my bakery. So I called it Heaven Scent, but to add me as a neighbor my id is BertiesHeavenScent.

At first I started to try to design it after the bakery in my book. That turned out to take way too many gems. For some reason the color pink is very expensive!

It's fun and a nice little game. Takes up way too much time but now that it is pretty much established I don't have to play so much. I did make my first glazed donuts today - what would Berties Bakery be without glazed donuts?

Sucker Holes!

When the kids were little we were in one of the bathrooms at a State Park. Caroline ran in and said, "There is blue sky, can we go swimming, now?" The rule was that it had to be 70 degrees to go swimming. Making this rule was the only way we could do anything but swimming!!!

A lady came out of a stall and told her, "That little bit of blue is a sucker hole, only suckers believe it is going to get nice out when they see one of those!"

The lady walked out and Caroline started big crocodile tears. I said, "Well sucker, let's go swimming!"

I can tell you from years of experience - when we see a sucker hole we are so happy. It usually does mean it is going to get nice.

Back Home

Well - we had a good vacation - but it was so dog gone cold! The wind blew off the lake and of course we camp right by it so we can see the sunset! It is fun seeing the sunset on the sunrise side - the Tawas Point State Park curves around so you see the sunset on one side and the sunrise on the other.

We even were there for the super moon show - the full moon coincided with the time it was closest to the Earth.

We drove around because as I said above, it was so cold - we saw an amazing thing - Sandhill Cranes, along with Turkey Vultures and Cows in a pasture!

We saw several Eagles flying around and looked over to see one sitting right by the road in a tree. He just sat there looking majestic!

We sure can't wait for our annual group camping trip - that one is my favorite.

CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

I thought we were in trouble, no sandbox! But she found the optometrist. Maybe she should go ti work with Grandma Caroline!

She loved the wall filled with noses and glasses. She tried on several pair. She liked putting them back on thenoses.

On our way out she had fun watching coins go into the wishing well. She told Papa he should have brought more coins to throw in!

Good Thing!

Good thing we are practicing! I don't think we are having pizza on our group camping trip! We will try again tomorrow.

Heavens

All grown up. Beautiful, confident and can't wait for Ferris in the fall. Sheala, I love that girl!

Lots of Birds

Sandhill Cranes and Vultures in a cow field. An eagle right by the side of M72. I did get pictures and will post when we get home.

At the campground last night we had Baltimore Orioles and a Phoebe. We never saw a Phoebe before - bright yellow breast. It was beautiful.

It is cold today so we drove to Tuttle Marsh. Hardly anything to see. Lots of Canadian Geese and their goslings, though.

I bet you can't guess!

I am at the campfire overlooking the Tawas Bay - under my fish blanket! It's cozy under here! We are having fun.

The kids in the cabin next door are riding their bikes. The little girl's training wheels are dragging on the cement. She is going so fast you can tell she'll have those training wheels off in a week.

It reminds me of Joanna and Caroline and then Robbie and Sheala. I love camping.

1st Camping Trip of the Year!

Yahoo! We are all packed and ready to go! I love the first camping trip of the year!

It should be so quiet at the campground - only retirees! Will post from up north!

Paco the Basketball Star?

The boys next door came over and asked Pat to play basketball! He is out there with the boys and their Mom's boyfriend. Pray he doesn't have a heart attack after eating the best food ever for dinner!

We went to Roma's in Lansing today. I bought some Balsamic Reduction that was sooo good. We grilled steaks and green pepper and tomato skewers. I drizzled the reduction over the veggies.

Added mashed potatoes and homemade rolls. Not to mention the wine Jesse started us loving - Estancia!
